Walk-in Wound Care Offered at Our Urgent Care Clinic Near Somers Point, NJ
You don’t have to be an athlete, master chef, or avid gardener to be at risk of cuts and scrapes on a daily basis. Fortunately, in most cases, whether you fall off your bicycle or step on a jagged piece of glass, the wounds your body endures will heal themselves with a little TLC at home. However, some wounds may be worrisome; for example, how many parents have looked at their child’s injury and wondered if it needed stitches? And other wounds just don’t seem to get better, even with proper care at home.
For injuries that don’t threaten life or limb, the compassionate medical practitioners at Cape Regional Urgent Care stand ready to help by offering nonemergency wound care. Our Marmora walk-in clinic is only a few minutes’ drive from Somers Point, New Jersey. We treat patients of all ages, and we’re open during extended hours daily, including weekends. Plus, our wait times are short, our rates are affordable, and we accept many health insurance plans—all of which makes Cape Regional Urgent Care a better alternative to the emergency room when emergency medical treatment isn’t needed.
How Do You Know if a Wound Is Serious?
Minor cuts and scrapes typically heal well if they’re gently washed and disinfected as soon as possible and kept clean thereafter. You should cover a bleeding wound with a sterile gauze pad or clean, dry cloth and apply pressure. It’s a good idea to seek professional wound care if:
- Bleeding doesn’t stop after pressure is applied for 15 minutes.
- The injury was caused by an animal bite, or a dirty or rusty object.
- The edges of the wound are jagged and hard to push together.
- The cut is deeper than half an inch.
- The wound is located on the face.
If you suspect your wound has become infected, that’s another good reason to visit our urgent care clinic. If, after a few days of home treatment, your wound remains red and swollen, has a bad-smelling or discolored discharge, or is causing a fever, you should seek medical care. A wound that’s properly healing should form a scab within a few days.
