Can I Go to Urgent Care for a Strep Test?
A trip to your general practitioner isn’t usually necessary for a strep test. Cape Regional Urgent Care offers rapid strep testing seven days a week at our clinic near Ocean View, New Jersey. We never require appointments, so you can get the care you need even when your doctor’s office is booked solid or you’re on vacation away from your primary care physician. Plus, we offer online check-in, so you can reserve your spot in line before you arrive.
What is a Rapid Strep Test?
A rapid strep test is a diagnostic test used to detect the presence of streptococcus – the bacteria that causes strep throat. To conduct the test, a medical provider will run a cotton swab over your tonsils and throat. Then, the sample will be processed. Rapid strep tests work very quickly and your results will be ready in as little as five minutes.
How is Strep Throat Treated?
Most cases of strep throat are treated with antibiotics. Once you begin treatment, you should start to feel better within a day or two. However, it’s important that you continue taking your medication as prescribed, even if your symptoms disappear. If you stop taking your antibiotics before you’re instructed to, the infection is likely to come back stronger.
