Types of Coronavirus Tests We Offer
The virus that causes COVID-19 was first identified in late 2019, and by early 2020, the world was caught up in a coronavirus pandemic. Since then, there have been numerous developments in testing options that can detect the virus and help people take the appropriate steps to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their co-workers. Cape Regional Urgent Care is proud to keep step with these developments and offer our patients the most up-to-date options for combatting COVID-19.
Here’s a brief description of the COVID-19 testing options we provide:
Rapid Covid-19 Antigen Test
This test involves nasal swab sampling and results are usually available within minutes. It’s appropriate for patients who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, which may include:
- Headache
- Fever and/or chills
- Coughing
- Breathing difficulty
- New loss of taste and/or smell
This type of coronavirus testing is also a good option if you’ve been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.
PCR Covid-19 Test
PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction, and this test is considered the gold standard for detecting an active COVID-19 infection. When you opt for this test, one of our highly qualified medical professionals will collect a nasal swab sample for analysis, and results are usually available within 3 days.
Antibody Serum Test
This test is designed to detect the presence of coronavirus antibodies in your blood, which would provide evidence that you had the virus and recovered, even if you didn’t experience any symptoms. Positive results may indicate that you have some level of immunity to the disease.
We also offer a combination of nasal swab and antibody serum tests, which can be a smart choice for people who plan to travel or visit with friends and relatives who are at high risk for complications if they contract COVID-19.
If you’re not sure which type of COVID-19 test is right for you, our friendly staff will be glad to discuss your needs and help you decide. Of course, if you need COVID-19 test results to meet your employer’s requirement for starting a new job or returning to the workplace, you’ll want to share your employer’s guidelines with us.
