Coronavirus Testing at Cape Regional Urgent Care
COVID-19 is a new and highly contagious strain of coronavirus that can cause serious respiratory problems, especially for people 65 and older or those with underlying medical conditions such as lung disease, heart problems, and diabetes. However, people of all ages and health conditions have contracted the virus and experienced symptoms ranging from mild to very severe. Although various symptoms have been reported, the most common signs of illness are fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. If you’re in the Cape May Court House area and you’re experiencing similar symptoms or you’re concerned that you’ve been exposed to the virus, you can seek coronavirus testing at our urgent care clinic. There is no pre-authorization needed.
At this time, there is no coronavirus vaccine available, although medical researchers and government officials have put development of a COVID-19 vaccine on a fast track for testing and approval. Cape Regional Urgent Care is monitoring developments and hopes to offer a coronavirus vaccine as soon as it’s available for distribution.
Types of COVID-19 Tests Available at Our Urgent Care Clinic
We offer three coronavirus testing options:
Rapid COVID-19 Test
For this test, one of our experienced medical professionals will collect a nasal swab sample for analysis, and the results will be available within minutes. This test is appropriate for patients who are experiencing symptoms consistent with coronavirus or who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus.
PCR Nasal Swab Test
This is another test designed to detect an active infection. PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction, and testing involves analyzing a nasal swab sample for molecular evidence of the virus that causes COVID-19. Results may take several days.
Antibody Serum Test
This test involves a blood draw and is designed to detect the presence of coronavirus antibodies in your body, which would indicate that you had the virus and recovered. This could mean that you have some immunity to the virus.
Combination Nasal Swab & Antibody Serum Tests
Many people who are infected by coronavirus experience only mild symptoms or none at all, but they can still be contagious and put others at risk. For this reason and to ensure the most thorough test results, some researchers suggest that patients undergo both nasal swab and antibody serum testing. This can be a smart choice for people who plan to travel or visit with relatives who are at high risk for complications if they come down with the illness.
In addition to individual testing appointments, we offer bulk testing options for employers, including schools and emergency services organizations.
Because coronavirus symptoms are similar to those of the flu, it will be helpful to know whether you had a flu shot this season, and you may be encouraged to get a flu test. If you need flu testing, we can provide it at our in-house medical testing lab. For COVID-19 testing, you’ll be given an appointment and instructions regarding testing at our urgent care clinic.
Cape Regional Urgent Care offers a convenient and often less expensive alternative to seeking nonemergency medical treatment at a hospital emergency room, and we accept many insurance plans and forms of payment.
