Types of Coronavirus Testing We Offer
We offer two types of nasal swab tests that are designed to detect an active COVID-19 infection. These are:
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Coronavirus Test
This test is appropriate for those experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, which may include coughing and a fever. It’s also the type of coronavirus testing that’s often required for air travel and for entry into certain states and countries. PCR testing detects the genetic material associated with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, and it has a high accuracy rate. Results are often available within a day or two, but they may take longer during periods of high demand.
Rapid Antigen COVID-19 Test
The primary advantage of this test is its short turnaround time. The rapid coronavirus test is designed to detect protein fragments associated with SARS-CoV-2, and results are typically available within minutes. However, the rapid antigen test is minimally less accurate than the PCR test.
Antibody Serum COVID-19 Test
This test is appropriate for people who want to find out if they had a coronavirus infection, with or without experiencing symptoms, and recovered. A positive result may indicate that the patient has some level of immunity to the disease. Unlike the PCR and rapid antigen test, this COVID-19 test is based on blood sampling.
