Prepare for the Start of the Season by Getting a Sports Physical
Playing sports is a great way for kids to stay active, socialize with their peers, and have fun. But, it’s important to ensure they’re healthy enough to play safely. That’s why many schools and programs in the Petersburg, New Jersey, area require players to undergo a pre-participation physical prior to partaking in their chosen sport. If your child needs a sports physical, visit Cape Regional Urgent Care. We offer walk-in exams seven days a week and will have your child in, out, and ready to play in no time.
What Happens During a Sports Physical?
A sports physical consists of two main components: a discussion of your child’s medical history and a physical exam. During the medical history portion of the exam, our provider will ask about any serious illnesses or surgeries your child has undergone, whether there is a history of chronic illness in the family, any medications your child is taking, whether their immunizations are up to date, and similar questions. Then, we’ll move on to the physical exam. This is a brief exam that includes checking your child’s:
- Height
- Weight
- Vision
- Blood pressure
- Pulse rate
- Strength and flexibility
- Heart
- Lungs
- Abdomen
At the end of the exam, our provider will sign a form confirming the sports physical was completed. If we notice a cause for concern, we may recommend a follow-up exam or further testing.
